About Us
Our Vision
Our vision is to bring more beauty into the world. “…love by wisdom forms beauty, and wisdom from love receives it” (E. Swedenborg, The Delights of Wisdom Concerning Conjugial Love” #384 originally published in Amsterdam in 1768) and thus we have named the company “Love and Wisdom, LLC”. We envision this beauty to be in the form of breathtakingly beautiful large aperture kaleidoscopes in many different forms modernized from Sir David Brewster’s original vision of the kaleidoscope: “Treatise on the Kaleidoscope” first published in 1819 after being presented at the Royal Society of Edinburgh a couple years before. We are bringing back some of the brilliant long lost ideas from that treatise and updating them with modern technology that was not available over 200 years ago, creating precision masterpieces of art and jewels of optical symmetry with beauty that will leave the observer craving for more. Most of our kaleidoscopes are much larger than conventional kaleidoscopes, show a variety of three-dimensional shapes, can be viewed with two eyes at once, and have unique mechanical features adorning a wide variety of our own original thematic art. It is our vision that these creations not only make a stimulating conversation piece in your home but bring mesmerizing beauty in the infinite variety of patterns that each kaleidoscope creates.
Our Passion
Nothing happens without passion and our passion is in creating beautiful art that often has a mathematical flair and incorporates sacred geometry. We create the illusion of lit-up three dimensional platonic solids with complex mirror systems where every face is a brilliant color mandala in large aperture kaleidoscopes. We believe there is an in-born passion in everyone to create and we have tapped into that passion within ourselves. The kaleidoscope has captivated both the young and old for over 200 years and it is our hope that the innovative and creative changes that we have made to the concept will inspire future generations.
Our Approach
Our approach is to create kaleidoscopes with all 5 three dimensional platonic solids (tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, dodecahedron, and icosahedron) floating in space plus some other shapes using our own original and unique designs viewable with both eyes at the same time and to have a wide variety of themes available for these kaleidoscopes. The themes include the following partial list:
Steam Punk, Napa Valley, Garden Model, Arborist Theme, Personalized, Science Fiction, Aquatic Theme, Sea turtles and Manatees, Butterflies, Whiskey and Cigars, Holiday Versions, Lakes of New Hampshire, Jungle Animal Theme, Grand Hotels of New Hampshire, Mount Washington, Covered Bridges of New Hampshire, Ornithology Theme, and Mathematics Theme.
The precision mirror systems are created with custom fixturing, the art applied to the kaleidoscopes is original and some of which is applied with lasers, a handheld woodburning tool and the Lichtenberg process. The cell systems are each created to reflect the theme of each kaleidoscope using some of the glass fragments recovered from Louis Comfort Tiffany’s Laurelton Hall in New York that burned to the ground in 1957. Our approach is to hand-craft each kaleidoscope so that each one becomes an heirloom quality beautiful masterpiece.
